Judicial Responsibilities

Judge Campbell handles a heavy and complex case load in his court. He has full jurisdiction over misdemeanor crimes committed in the Town of Greece filed in his court, including drugs, alcohol, and domestic violence crimes. In addition, he presides over traffic violations, civil and small claim actions.

During his 23 years on the bench, Judge Campbell has presided over thousands of misdemeanor criminal cases. He is responsible for arraigning defendants, issuing orders of protection, if required, deciding motions, presiding at hearings and conducting bench or jury trials, as well as sentencing defendants convicted of misdemeanor crimes.

Town Justices have preliminary jurisdiction over felony charges filed in town court. Judge Campbell has presided over numerous felony arraignments of defendants charged with major felony crimes committed in the Town of Greece, including drugs, weapon, and other violent felonies. He has also conducted many preliminary hearings to determine whether the felony charges filed establishes sufficient legal proof to hold the defendant for grand jury action.

Judge Campbell, as Town Justice, has authority to issue search warrants in criminal cases requested by law enforcement agencies. Judge Campbell determines if sufficient legal cause and proof exits to issue a search warrant and the extent of any such search.

Judge Campbell has worked diligently to implement an efficient court docket.
